With a 3 and a half-month old baby of their own, you would think owners Ben and Beth Fairchild already have their hands full. But with Beth at home with their baby, and Ben running the shop, they’re making their concept of a baby boutique work. Specializing in both baby and maternity wear, as well as importing interesting items, the store seems like a perfect addition to the village: for instance, gifts for expectant mothers, new parents, or infant birthdays just got a lot more local.
As well, they’re eager to talk to moms who might have suggestions for other products they should carry. There’s already some unique finds, such as these baby kimonos we saw for display, and they’re happy to bring in other products from the same supplier if you see something else online. The variety extends beyond clothes and toys, as we noticed a focus on bilingual items and resources for braille and sign language, too.
So make sure to stop in next time you’re in the area. Ben is friendly and very knowledgeable about everything they carry, and only in Steveston will you find a pro-snowboarder who is in the process of becoming a firefighter, and just happens to run a maternity store! You can find Ben and Beth in unit 110 at 3911 Moncton Street, or online at stevestonvillagematernity.com where they will soon have a full service e-store thanks to Dock Talk alum Garth Poon.
